Denis's music...

I have been creating music on and off for around 35 years. I have experienced all types of music. Right now I'm into everything and anything. I love creating new music, I hardly every play any covers. As most songwriters say the buzz is when you've put a song together and listen back to it with a sence of acheivement, that is to say if what you created was a load manure, scrap it and start it again.....LOL

Cheers

Alpha Nine - Collobo

This is my first attempt at some ambient stuff. I've collaborated with a chap who's name is 'David Newby'. I'm just playing the guitar with percussion played on my guitar, which was layed down first with the aid of a metronome. It's the first time I've collaborated with someone for a long time. Please give honest comments.

Thanx

I'm having nightmares with a new sound card I purchased, the one that came with the computer is currently better quality?? I've spent a couple of weeks trying to fathom out why it's not working the way it should, it's quite trebly and clips and pops like you wouldn't believr.
Anyway I've recorded this on my old soundcard, I sneezed big time whilst recording the guitar rhythm and miraculasly didn't make any mistakes with the rhythm at least at that moment in time.

This is a project for me to learn multi instrument complex arrangements . Well multi for me.

My goal is to write a piece of music with a lot of variation, with highs and lows etc

Please comment on how all the instruments work together, this is a first for me.

The lead is all improvisation, no need to comment on this part.

After a week off work recovering from a vasectomy and creating music, then back at work for a week, which has been very strange in that I couldn't get back into my normal routine, I got the opportunity to finish this song.
There are a lot of sounds picked up from my mics, even a motorcycle at he very end, hence I decided to use real instruments for the whole song. I would love to do a vocal for this one day.

Hope this chills you out.

Driving Down The Lane

After a long break of writing songs and I mean about 25 years, the company I'm working for said I could upgrade my company car. Being a typical male I became quite excited. So this was the first song that got me back into writing songs again, which has been a blessing for me in that I have had so much fun since. My friend Graham Long wrote the lyrics to the song. I've often thought of adding other instruments to this song, but I think it sounds OK on it's own. Would be keen toknow what you think.

Driving Down The Lane

Rosebay willow herb
And lavender-abloom,
Sweetly sing its perfume

As dawnright shines
And the mocking bird departs
These words of poetry are hidden deep within my song

While driving down the lane
Sweet moments spill from my eyes
And That’s no surprise

Everything eclipsed, even my memories
They appear and fade along the shore
And I dream to drive down that lane –
Just one more time,
Those glorious memories
Is something special in my heart

We’d dance to a tune in the gloom

Go With The Flow

Firstly appologise for not being on the AMP for a while, just got composer cramp for too long, hence if I don't get any new ideas to work on I get bored, fed-up. Think I was getting too bogged down with the technical side, so now trying to get a good ballance.

Hence the title of the song, I went with the flow, the rhythm part where I'm singing is unusual, but I 'went with the flow', [pardon the pun]

Because it's so weard, I couldn't find a drum pattern to go with it, so I bashed out the drums on my Yamaha keys ,freehand, one track Cymbols the other Bass drum and snare. Also after playing guitar some 30 plus years with a pick, I tried my fingers, so the dynamics are not brillient, but I like the sound. and Yes there is a real flute playing.

It needs a little editing and Eq work.

Let me know what you think please

Gonna Love you Till The Sun Dont Shine

Happy new year to everybody!!

Music/Vocals ; Denis
Lyrics: PagansCradle

Lyrics

Gonna love you, [Chorus]
Till the sun dont shine.

I shall tell you this everyday,
It would hurt me if you went away,
All the clouds would fill the sky,
And hide the sun.

Do you know what it would do to me?,
If you were to close the door,
Oh the sun wont shine baby baby,
You got to know you can never leave me.

Because if you ever leave me, [Bridge]
My lights would all shut down,
All my life i'm breathing you,
Just to survive.

Golden suns reflecting in your eyes,
Now on earth I am in paradise,
Oh a dream I have has now come true,
Im needing you,

Heart Strings/vox

I'm having a go at lyrics. Feed back on the vox and lyrics would be great

Heart Strings

Can’t find the words to say
How much I feel for you
My feelings of love for you
Are beyond my vocabulary skill

[Chorus]
That sing true as I know they should be
What my emotions tell me
I can only play this melody
And strum my Heart Strings
Strum my Heart Strings
Strum my Heart Strings

My Heart Strings play for you
How much I feel for you
It’s something I can’t explain
My words just don’t sound the same

[Chorus]
That sing true as I know they should be
What my emotions tell me
I can only play this melody
And strum my Heart Strings
Strum my Heart Strings
Strum my Heart Strings

[instrumental]

[Chorus]

Laughter Of Joy

First recording using my new preamp.
Yes The giggly laughter in the background about half way is Joy [the wife] laughing, she was downstairs on the phone to her mate at the time I recorded the guitar part in my bedroom, if you listen carefully you can hear a door open, that was Danielle[the daughter], she remained unusually very quite, whilst I finished the guitar part. I suppose I could have redone the guitar, but I'm a bit crazzy and liked the way it came out.

Keep smiling everybody, life is too short!!!

Merciful Moments

I purchased a cheap new Soprano Sax three weeks ago, it was on my wish list. Only paid £100.00 for it on ebay.

I've practiced everyday, cause I was working on this tune and felt it would be a nice touch.

Also, I'm sort of getting into finger picking on the guitar these days, I like the tone. I'm still new to this style of playing,
I suppose I was so set in my ways using the pick, I just never had the confidence or patience to practice it.

I tried putting the drum machine though my preamp to find that the left channel was not going through the High Z circuit, most annoying, so I just recorded it straight.

This was a most enjoyable project.

Cheers

Outbound/vox/synth/remix

Tried a new feature on my workstation to vary the pitch on the rhythm guitar creating more separation, I only changed it by 1%, but I think it's OK?? reduced crash cymbal by 3 Db's, plus reduced the bass and raised the the upper mid's.
on the rhythm guitar .
Did a 3 part vocal Harmony, the third harmony I had to do a few times, it took a lot of concentration to get the right pitch, The synth is from my Yamaha keyboard, Still no Joy using VSTi's, hence tried loading Cubase on my daughters laptop, which is Vista based, I think it perhaps doesn't support it, I've been trying for over a year to set up midi.. I'll get there one day.
I wasn't sure weather to edit the lead guitar where the lead vox is, I think it's OK, tried to mix it as best as possible, It's very hard to get the balance right when there are many layers, like this one, well many for me... LOL

I think I'm going to write some simple songs for a while, this was hard work.

Your comments always welcome

Cheers

Upon receiving comments I recieved from the banampers on when I first uploaded this song, I removed the sampled drums and played some live percussion and added some bass.

Found myself playing some chords I liked, added the melody and percussion. I like it as it is personally, although the melody is a bit off in some places. I can live with it

Rockin to The Rhythm

I was somehow influenced by David Gray when I wrote this song. Whilst I was jamming one day I realised I was rocking back and forth to the rhythm I was palying. When I finished mixing the song I had this fanatasy vision of David Gray performing the song to a massive live audience, when everybody was joining in with there hands in the air, swaying from side side, singing we're 'Rockin to The Rhythm'. If only it were true.
The song is rough in quite a few places and the vocals clash here and there. I would like to do it again with my new digital workstaion, I just find it hard to find the time.

Please make any suggestions on how to improve it.

Cheers.

My nieghbour Pete died suddenly a few days ago, whom I've known for over 26 years.
His wife found him at home in bed, then suffered a mild heart attack. She is OK now.

This piece goes out to Pete's family.

Sorry for the background noise, fireworks night etc.

I dont think I could do this again, it simply wouldn't capture the emotion.

Bless.

Shinin Down On Me

I recorded this a couple of years back on a tape multi-tracker, off the cuff. I'm looking for somebody to collaborate on the lyrics. I think it may just need a couple of verses. also keen to hear general comments on what to do with the song.

So Happy

In my madness, last week I uploaded a song called, 'So Sorry', and thought I would try something faster, which is a real challenge for me, as I normally play slow with plenty of space. It was meant to be longer but I could only sustain the speed for so long before I had to stop., lol

So Sorry

I began with the acoustic guitar a few months ago, and finally got around to adding some lyrics to it. The spooky thing about this track is that in the lyrics there is a line about a text message and I actually got one while I was recording the song. I have thought about adding more lyrics to the tune, but I feel it may be too long, although at the moment I think it's too short. Hoping for some compromise and some comments from you please.

Soft & Gentle

Various Bandamp menbers have encouraged me to do more vocal songs.

I don't know what it is, but my mind goes blank most of the time when I try to write some song words. I think it's psychological, I just need to either get drunk or something and just go for it. I keep asking for someone on bandamp to collaborate on the lyrics, but I guess everybody is either too busy or something else?

So yes this is another instrumental song that can easily have vox to it.

Splendor

I had a vasectomy last thursday, sore as hell, but thankfully it's not too bad if I keep in one place and can still create music.
It's amazing despite being in pain I created this song, which was a challenge in it's self. Isn't music a wonderfull thing.

Strenght To Love

Music: Denis
Lyrics: BasketCase

I initally wrote the music and with amazing luck manged to fit BasketCase lyrics into the song and just added one more line [it was his idea to try them out for the song], The lyrics below was how they were initally written.

I've got an old drummer friend who said he is going to try any record drums with an electronic kit. we'll see

STRENGHT TO LOVE

Another year has come and gone
How I miss your warmth in my arms
The love we burned can't be replaced
A distant memory that I can't escape
You gave me life, what it meant to live
Treasure you always your deep within
What was it you used to say to me?
Should've listened you'd be here with me

It took the end to see
where to begin
The boy you used to know
no longer scared I've got
the strength to love
Maybe these thoughts
show my age

Now that your lesson has been taught
Hope you see that our time wasn't lost
What I am today is because of you
All because of you, you you you

It took the end to see
where to begin
The boy you used to know
no longer scared I've got
the strength to love
Maybe these thoughts
show my age

TV's on I see your face
The skies are crying
It's too late
Why you? It should've been me
For the love of God ! The irony
Lightning strikes
Thunderous clap on my door
I must be dreaming
I fall to the floor
Hand on my shoulder
whisper in my ear
It's OK Dad
Swallow those tears

Mom knew you'd be ready some day
Unfortunate it had to be this way
Together we'll honor her love
She's always watching up above

Add -Lib [The original lyrics repeated the chorus here]

Takes Two/remix

Me and the Mrs went out for a meal just the two of us a coulpe of days ago, we've got two teenage daughters, the last time we went out just the two of us was when my kids were in nappies. Goes without saying this song about going out with that special someone.

I've remixed this, done the congas again.

I may extend it, perhaps longer solo, or a bridge and back to the main???

Cheers

Tell-a-Tale-or-Two

I recorded this around two years ago on a portable multitrack cassette recorder. The previous night I recorded it, myself and a few work colleges went out for a meal and a few laughs. I'm lucky in that I work for a small company and we all get on. We had a great laugh that night. I've been meaning to take all the good parts out of the tune and make it into a proper song. I personally find it hard to put a song together over a long period, I generally record a whole song over a day. I think It's to do with the feel. I would love to hear some constructive criticism, so I can get the inspiration to do it again.
I hope you like it.
